CANTERBURY CLASSIC

Top selection (4) BOLD MATADOR looks nice EW value resumed winning the Carrington Stakes (1100) been kept fresh, drawn ideally and should be given every chance in this (6) CRIMSON REIGN resuming and goes well fresh and this distance, well weighted and has the services of Beadman (12) CAPTAIN BAX big effort in the Carrington when got too far back early, goes OK this track / distance and drawn well (5) WRITTEN TYCOON would have been higher in my list but for the wide draw, with any luck in running very hard to beat. Roughie (11) OUR LIAM great strike rate and winner all 3 starts this campaign.

Look like nice early odds for the sandgropers! Thanks El Gordo ;)

PATfromPERTH 2nd February 2006 04:08 PM

Odds look good to a parochial west aussie but you need to factor in the real possibility they don't make the final field in which case it's as good as not running a drum!

SunsetCoast 2nd February 2006 04:12 PM

Yeh! But if they do any good in lead-up races (assuming that's the case) the odds will come tumbling in ;)

PATfromPERTH 2nd February 2006 04:28 PM

Good point SunsetCoast! And I'm sure they would all do well in any lead-up race :D

PATfromPERTH 2nd February 2006 04:35 PM

Master Minx

My goodness, we have a sandgroper listed to start at Morphettville on Saturday !! I knew Black Tom was heading that way but didn't realise the Perth Cup runner-up Master Minx was also on target for the Adelaide Cup. Would be great to see them run the quinella!

Wasn't on Master Minx's original agenda but as he was doing so well during a brief letup following the Perth Cup trainer Bob MacPherson convinced connections to give it a go. Set to clash with Black Tom in the Port Adelaide Cup before the 3200 rematch of the Adelaide Cup.

Metallurgy

I had a small go on Metallurgy in the seventh at Mt Barker yesterday. I remember watching this horse street them at the same course/distance about a year ago. From memory, Metallugy won the race a year ago in the same fashion.

Watching the video of the race last night, that final turn looks to be a tight one, similar to Mooney Valley. Looks like this may be a 'specialists' track.

Can any of the WA locals confirm my view of the last turn at Mt Barker?

Cheers

I've always considered all WA out-of-town tracks as a "specialist's" tracks Franskter, although perhaps to a lesser extent for Pinjarra and Bunbury.

The fastest heat winner of the day was the handy country class mare Twin City Girl. She normally races well fresh so watch for her return.

Of the other heats unraced 2YO filly Sprintess and the unraced Fimiston stallion Reign Of Fire were both impressive.

Desiarnez Ascot race 4 tomorrow. Should do well.

Speed tips Ascot Saturday

Hey folks,

Sat 4 Feb 2006 R2 #3 Bold Ransom. Anyone who follows formlines in the west will have been wondering what the hell this mid/forward runner was doing back at the tail of the field on Jan 21. Apprentice Hill took him back there from his wide gate and that was the end of his chances. He minged home in the straight only to go down to another promising gelding in Real Halo. He returned a 105 that day, and a 100 before that. He will now be cherry ripe to show his absolute best and P. Harvey on is a major plus. He just might give this field a galloping lession!

Sat 4 Feb 2006 LAY R8 #11 Bundy Jack. This 3yo looks promising with two wins this prep already, but he cannot win today. He returned only moderate 91 and 92 his previous two starts. Minimum benchmark to be in the finish here looks to be 95.
