Nice surprise for those that can get out to Belmont tomorrow!
Marasco will appear in an exhibition gallop over 1200m between races.

grey matter

At Belmont today the grey brigade have representation in R2 Spirited One strong winner first-up & suited the extra distance. Teaken also a strong winner first-up & suited the extra distance. Delpak (drawn wide) & Simply Adorable (inside draw) are first starters. R3 Call Of Freedom scratched last Sat for this. Moondance Magic a bit an in or out customer but has won in the city over 2200. R4 Wongkaew won nicely this course last week. R5 Calarosa Donna needed the run first-up, fitter. R6 Just A Halo will be up with them, although the 1650 could test. R8 River Mist looked disappointing last start when given every chance but this race looks a bit easier this time & has the claim again. Zorobo weakened noticeably over 1300 last start but does drop back to 1200 & drawn well.

MARASCO

D. Oliver has elected not to ride Marasco or El Segundo but instead will pilot the fabulous Haradasan.
Must be really something to have a choice between such brilliant horses.

goldenember 26th July 2007 06:30 AM

Hmmmm, lets see now, didnt the same hoop jumped off Northerly to ride Don Eduardo

I thought that Marasco was a shade disappointing (although racing wide) in his exhibition gallop yesterday when edged out by stablemate Super Dragon.

In an interview immediately after the gallop Fred Kersley commented that the gallop had indicated to him that Marasco was not as forward as he had thought.

When questioned on how Marasco would go first-up (Aug 4th) Fred gave no real indication, mentioning quality of opposition (amongst other things) and the fact that Marasco hasn’t always gone extra well first-up previously. From what I can see his first-up record is pretty good.

Be surprised if Pike doesn't get the nod to ride Marasco in Perth

westman 27th July 2007 03:57 PM

Lots of rain in Perth at the moment. Looks settled in. Might be slow tomorrow.

You can certainly forget that Banner Storm went around! Bounded on jumping missing the start completely & then unable to take up his customary role up front!!

partypooper 31st July 2007 02:34 AM

well, listened to the replay of all, and am still bamboozled that not one of em' was placed, amazing!!

surprise!! :) harvey to ride ;)

watsonnek 31st July 2007 01:55 PM

Yep, the pontiff has given up his ride on Vain Crusader to ride Marasco. Vain Crusader to be ridden by Troy Turner.

mv2040 31st July 2007 06:06 PM

gday partypooper, imo the writting was on the wall with motivator last start, had enough!

partypooper 31st July 2007 06:36 PM

mv2040, yes I agree, I was actually quite glad when the conditions were too bad for a bet. as Motivator was a system bet, but Pike carried him over the line last time I thought.

Banner Storm missed it at the start so I'm told (didn't hear that on the replay)

And the other one finished 5th I think, well after all it IS racing I suppose!

Belmont tomorrow, R1 last start city winner The Gray Bear comes off a 70 day layoff, gone ok fresh before & doesn’t mind the damp ground. Place chances same race Akka Man & Grey Johnson. R3 Teaken not beaten far this course last week running 5th of 16. R4 Air Of Vigilance is having his 1st start. The Duck goes onto Bangadang Jack who should be improved by previous 2 starts. R5 Grey Zoro is 2nd-up & will have the services of by Dashing Dan Miller. R6 Starlight Grey should be coming home strongly, Metal Mayhem suited the journey & El Sarie resumes after a long spell. R7 Busters Icon an EW show. R8 Summer Haze put in a top effort last start (2nd-up) & fitter for that run.

Ventured West

In the opener at Belmont today former Victorian DECKI KISEKI is having his 4th start in WA. Ran a nice race when 3rd most recent start over 1650m & is a winner in slow going.

westman 1st August 2007 03:07 PM

Interstate riders may think twice about riding in WA. It would seem that the weekly compensation (workers’ comp) paid to WA riders is less than 50% of the sum paid to riders in other mainland States.

Firmed from 8/1 to 9/2 but was extremely disappointing.

Only a small field but at least 3 horses (imo) that could beat Marasco depending on how the race pans out & Marasco's level of fitness ;)

I was pleasantly surprised with Marasco's performance today. He covered the last 600m in the very quick time of 33.57 secs!

WayOutWest 5th August 2007 12:58 AM

Apparently caught Fred off guard as well

partypooper 5th August 2007 02:12 AM

Yes, eventually Harvey swung it for me + the amazing place divi, I had a reasonable win bet, but a VERY nice place bet $1.90 to good to resist. Just as well, as I made a bad judgement on the Black Pig

Ran the last 600m a lot faster than Apache Cat & carrying 1.5kgs more. Now that says something!
