The late West Coast Eagles champion Chris Mainwaring will be honoured with a memorial race at Geraldton next Sunday, October 14.

In conjunction with Geraldton Turf Club, Chris’ brother Brett has organised a race to honour the popular champion’s memory.

The race will carry the title of “The Chris Mainwaring Memorial”.

Brett is a former amateur jockey having ridden for many years at Landor, Kojonup and Carnarvon riding numerous winners in the process.

He last rode at Landor in 2003.

The memorial race will be held the day after a planned candle-lit vigil at Greenough Oval Geraldton on Saturday night.

Greenough Oval is the home of Rovers Football Club the first team that Chris played senior football for.

West River Charley looked back to his best in winning the Birthday Stakes on Saturday.

Was also impressed with Beat The Storm’s first-up effort. I’ve rated BTS performance as a PB.

partypooper 8th October 2007 12:06 PM

I reckon the connections of BTS had a few quid on WRC,.... definitly should have lost the race. (even though it was a Partypoopers Plum Mover)

westman 8th October 2007 10:40 PM

Yeah, amazed me no protest. As it turns out Staeck outed for 23 days causing interference to Stormed Out same race!

imo BTS had every chance..,,wasn't good enough on the day..,,agree good run in any case

partypooper 9th October 2007 05:37 PM

Chenille Prince, BTS every chance yes, lack of race fitness in the end I think, but if you view the head on it was carried off the track just about, I was certain that there would be a protest. Anyway one to follow there, do you agree?

Just thinking aloud Westman (before the scratchings) just wondered at $1.35 pre-post quote was a bit stiff.

But problem solved with the scratching anyway.

partypooper 20th October 2007 04:00 PM

Sorry Westman, just saw that, well, as it happened, Harvey gave me the confidence so I backed it top Fluc for the win and also a decent place bet using my FREE BETS, so smiling all the way! dare I say it???? just need more of the same with Beat The Storm ARRRGGH! what have I done?

yeah what DID you do partypooper!! :) Beat The Storm was my main bet that race as well ;)

partypooper 23rd October 2007 11:10 PM

Pat from Perth, yeah, sorry mate we shouldn't do it should we? I actually had a decent place bet as well, so it finishes 4th, the only thing is at least it confirms the form as it was 2 kg's better off with WRC for a neck and still runs behind it. I lost a bit on my place bets overall but picked up a couple of good wins so ended up ok. you?

Do you know what happened to Blessed Sue while it was over East?

westman 24th October 2007 07:49 PM

Blessed Sue

I’ve heard nothing official. Her 2nd run was pretty good. Maybe different environment, different trainer. Lets hope she can recapture her true form back home in any case.

westman 24th October 2007 10:36 PM

a tinker here, a tinker there

Not much so far eh dockerkev, 2 out of 3 runs not up to par, only decent run when ridden from behind, perhaps there's a message there ;)

Was on course and owners and trainer were spewing over the ride by King (finished 2nd). Northam straight is longer than Belmont(which is long) and the horse does not have a long sprint. He was told to ride it cold until the 300-400 metre mark and then let it go. Jock didn't listen and took off at the 600 metre. At the 300 metre was in front but champion jock Paul Harvey on the favourite held his run and over powered Mikaldico in the final 200 metres. If you backed each way still in front but the poor ride killed the win chance.

Anyway back Dark Image at whatever price next start. Was climbing all over them at Ascot on Saturday. Jockey Paul Harvey protested 5th against 3rd and was upheld. Would most certainly have won and done it easily and appears a class horse.

Absolutely furious after that ride by Harvey, disgusting. This horse has 5 lengths on any 3yo sprinter in work in Perth at the moment and hes worrying about getting a rails run!

Managed to get $1.95 early in the day and the god damn thing was never off the bridle.

He left his run far too late and was cocky enough to think that something would open up for him..Certainty beaten but will be unbackable next start.

Yep potentially good horse but can’t agree 5 lengths on any 3yo sprinter in work in Perth at the moment…far from it!

We wont know until it next races but i have seen all 4 of its runs and other than its first start when it walked in it hasnt ben given a good run yet.

It literally toyed with its oposition 2 starts back when caught 3 wide the trip and won in second gear. Then it was never out of first last start so we havent even begun to see what it can do!

Its only my opinion, but i guess time will tell :)

PS Scenic blast will have Weekend Husslers measure tomorrow.
