Has Fred made up his mind yet, I've not heard anything?
And where is the Fish, can't see any rides for the weekend!

schonegg 2nd May 2009 01:50 AM

Haven't heard Hat, hope they continue in Queensland. Regarding Whiting, strange seeing Striken without the fish! Hasn't ridden for a few weeks though, not sure where he is.
Small fields mostly tomorrow :(. In the last, up and comer Werd has a bit of a cult following, has a good barrier to be in the finish.

Nominated for the Doomben Cup as well as the Derby.

MyHatMyCoat 4th May 2009 07:00 AM

Back to Belmont this Saturday. Anything like last years opening should be a great day & a big crowd. Lots of freebies as well.

Almost for the lightly raced Werd, nosed out in the last. Great riding effort Steven Parnham on the winner considering he was involved in a fall the race prior. And good news the Fish, back on Wednesday, guess he's just been taking a bit of a break. Anything of interest Wed, schonegg?

yeah thanks hat..i see moody has nominated a few for both races..will have to wait & see how things pan out..

schonegg 6th May 2009 01:59 AM

Not really Hat. I think Akheson will find it tougher than the walk in the park last time so I'll be laying that if a shortish price.
Back to Belmont on Saturday!

jake 6th May 2009 12:21 PM

yeah agree schonegg..i've a few rated above akheson..also rate osh empire a bit of a risk..even though it should get a plum run from the inside marble..

MyHatMyCoat 7th May 2009 04:39 AM

Good call, both of you.

MyHatMyCoat 7th May 2009 12:31 PM

The pontiff returns from suspension this Sat, shouldn't take long for Paul to get back in the winners list!

Good news schonegg. Marasco will land in the sunshine state next week.

Doomben 10,000 & then possibly the Stradbroke Handicap.

schonegg 10th May 2009 07:35 PM

Go Marasco

Great news Hat. Hope the track is firm for the Doomben 10,000

MyHatMyCoat 11th May 2009 11:37 AM

Currently 14/1 10000, 20/1 Straddie

Markus Maximus has arrived in Brisbane, jake. If he settles well a Doomben Cup start is a strong possibility, otherwise the Rough Habit then onto the Qld Derby.

jake 12th May 2009 02:40 PM

thanks hat..showing only 12/1 cup..seems a bit short to me..expected around 20/1..

jake 13th May 2009 03:40 PM

well hat..markus is a starter :) ..what chance scenic shot?..needs to improve heaps on his last start..

schonegg 15th May 2009 06:38 PM

What bad luck! Young Jarrad out for 4-5 weeks with a broken wrist. Just warming up too.

I think he will improve heaps today, jake. A little concerned the barrier, if he can get a good run should be in the finish.

schonegg 17th May 2009 10:21 PM

The in-form Shane Scriven booked for Marasco in Saturday's Doomben 10,000.

MyHatMyCoat 19th May 2009 02:06 AM

What a gutsy effort. O'Shea Stakes next on agenda.

Looks a good move schonegg. Another shot at the Cox Plate is apparently on Marasco's radar, if all goes well in Brissie.

MyHatMyCoat 20th May 2009 02:13 PM

If they run on Sat, gonna be a very wet track. If so, do you reckon Fred will start him, schonegg?

schonegg 21st May 2009 02:10 AM

Hat, Fred's probably seething at the moment. Was in two minds to take him north(or spell for Melbourne) so what does he do now? Looks like he'll run on Saturday($34 with IAS!) and if doesn't fire you'd bet Fred will take him back home :(

MyHatMyCoat 21st May 2009 12:16 PM

Yeah, you’re probably right schonegg. And to add insult to wounds, he has drawn an inside barrier. Not normally the best place to be on a wet track.

Not a bad run today schonegg, what do you reckon? Officially finished 6th. Loomed as a chance early in the straight, but then looked like he didn't really relish the track condition final bit.

schonegg 23rd May 2009 11:06 PM

Hat, Scriven couldn't have ridden it any better. Got out at the right time, loomed up as you say, and then the same as in Sydney showed no acceleration. Don't know if it's the wet tracks or just not good enough.

MyHatMyCoat 24th May 2009 07:40 AM

Yeah schonegg, agree Scriven rode him a treat under the circumstances. Do you reckon Fred will butter-up (Straddie), firm track would be nice.

jake 24th May 2009 10:27 PM

read somewhere that scenic blast was to gallop yesterday between races at belmont..did he? ..how did he go? ..thanks

yep..marasco is heading for the straddie..

MyHatMyCoat 27th May 2009 11:35 AM

Spot-on jake. Now only 26 horses nominated, with Marasco the new topweight.

Fantastic opportunity for Pike

Pike To Ride In Hong Kong

The states leading jockey William Pike is set to continue his riding career in Hong Kong after signing with the HKJC.

Pike will commence his riding contract at the opening meeting of the new season on September 15 and is required to be in Hong Kong two weeks before the commencement of the season.

“Yes I am going to try my luck in Hong Kong. It is the best racing in the world and I am going to try and match it against them.” Pike told perthracing.com.au

“The HKJC contacted me and it is an opportunity too good to resist.”

Pike currently sits atop of the rider’s premiership here in Perth with 73 winners, more then 34 clear of his nearest rival Troy Turner.
