I know racenet breaks down a jockeys rides at each track but in the past I have come across a site that breaks them down according to price, distance, going and so on. Does anyone know of this site????

I'm 99% sure it was 'Racing And Sports' which used to have a magnificent database where you could create your own jockey 'systems'. You just put in certain criteria and it would tell you exactly how that jockey would have fared under those particular circumstances. For example, you could find out how well horses ridden by Damien Oliver fared in 1600m races at Caulfield and Flemington when starting from Barrier 1 (VERY well by the way). Unfortunately, that database has gone now, but they still have a small section where you can see which jockeys do best over certain distances and on wet tracks etc. It is nowhere near as good.

Thanks Sportz, it was racing and sports, and yes what they have now is ordinary to what they use to have.

Yeah, Racenet is much better now, but still nowhere near as good as the Racing And Sports jockey stats used to be. You could play around with it for many hours, spitting out results to all sorts of different race scenarios. It was brilliant.

Ron,

As an example, I've just dug out some stats that I worked out from that site from way back in early 2000. It was based on the previous 18 months of racing. At the time, the three best jockeys to follow were Damien Oliver and the Cassidy brothers (Beadman wasn't riding then), so I did some research on them. In the case of the Cassidys, they are not nearly as successful these days, so these stats probably aren't worth a lot now, but these few examples just show how good that jockey stats database was. And remember these systems contain absolutely no rules at all about the form or odds of the horses they were riding.

J.CASSIDY
Metro trks / 1400-1600m / Slow or Heavy / Barriers 1-5 / 52.5-56.5kgs
6 wins from 16 rides and a profit of 240%

D.OLIVER, J.CASSIDY & L.CASSIDY
Caulfield, Flemington & Randwick / 1600m / Barriers 1-5 / 52.5-56.5kgs
17 wins from 42 bets and a profit of 125%

D.OLIVER, J.CASSIDY & L.CASSIDY
Any tracks / 1600m / Barrier 1 / 52.5-56.5kgs
13 wins from 30 bets and a profit of 166%

D.OLIVER, J.CASSIDY & L.CASSIDY
Caulfield, Flemington & Randwick / 1600m / Barrier 1 / 52.5-56.5kgs
10 wins from 15 bets and a profit of 320%

D.OLIVER & J.CASSIDY
Caulfield / 1600m / 52.5-56.5kgs
12 wins from 30 bets and a profit of 150%

Ron,

I've found a site which has all the free jockey stats you might want. You can't create systems like the old Racing And Sports site, but it's still pretty damn good. If you want to, you can leave your email address and I'll send you the details.

Thanks Sportz

Some interesting selections so far in the ratings comp.

Sportz 15th January 2005 09:40 AM

Yeah, I'm a bit confused. I'd worked out my ratings in R4 based on Jason Benbow getting 3 kgs off My Gibreel and I had him rated just ahead of another horse in 5th spot. But I just heard Shane Templeton say on radio that Jason only gets 2 kgs claim now, so I don't know what to do.

Thanks for the links to that site Sportz, I especially like the fact you can see how they have fared for different odds ranges. Even their performance from certain barrier posistions can point you away from some losers.

Sportz 15th January 2005 12:23 PM

Yep. Very handy.
