KALANGADOO CUP

Thought of this thread when doing the form for the KALANGADOO CUP over 1700m at Penola today.

The thread omen tip would have to be IRISH JESTER.! :)

Not without a genuine chance if he can run out the 1700.

And I think I’ve got the topical tri for the same race. IRISH JESTER (of course) with BEEN LAUGHING and YOU'RE JOKING :D

BEEN LAUGHING doesn’t look too well weighted but is capable of filling a place. And YOU'RE JOKING at his 3rd start back after a spell would almost be a special on best form so anywhere near that would make him very competitive today.

Personally I’m expecting Clare Lindop’s mount SUPER BOOM to be the one to beat. Not far away all 3 runs since a spell and will appreciate the step up in distance of todays race.

Not sure about the 3200m though, I think My Thornbird hasn't gone further than 2300m?

Watched that race was sure Hi On Love was going on for an easy win then out of nowhere comes Scenic Shot! Agree was most impressive.

Wide barrier and slow start beat this gelding last start, made amends big time yesterday breaking the race record!! :)

Hardrada retires

Railway Stakes winner Hardrada has retired.

Costing the owner just $30,000 Hardrada’s wins include the NJ Way, the Crystal Slipper, the Sires Produce, Winterbottom no. 1, the Lee Steere, Winterbottom no. 2 and 2003 Railway Stakes. Also placed in the 2002 Railway Stakes, 2003 Hannans Handicap and 2003 Fruit n Veg Stakes.

I think connections might have finished just a bit in front :D

The Kevin Heffernan Stakes was the 16th stakes success for Bomber Bill whose earnings stand at over $1.8 million. He has raced in every state of Australia, with the exception of Tasmania, been to Dubai and Hong Kong, and won three Gr 1 races, the first, WATC Karrakatta Plate, in 1998, the second, MVRC Australia Stakes, in 2001, and the third, SAJC Goodwood Handicap, in 2003.

Amazing old fellow!! Real gutsy win!!

Didn't realise just how well he did  Not done anything since returning from a spell this time around so assume that had a big bearing on his retirement. Enjoy your grazing days Hardrada ;)
