go the grey
G'day steve. Just noticed the greys are doing well at Mt Barker today. Costalot Girl winning at around 25/1 and Hearnster running 2nd at around 7/1. Just one more to go by my calculation - Moondance Magic in the last. Should be very hard to beat.

William's Steal given 60kgs in Ascot on Saturday. He has won his past 3 races at Esperance but 60kgs in the city???? The handicapper has killed him. Very sure they'll have to put a apprentice on him and reduce the impost to 57. At 57 with the right barrier this horse may prove hard to run down. Usually a front runner type of horse, if he can get away with some easy sectionals early then he will give you a run for your money.
Grey horse too Steve :) |
Interestingly, the only horse nominated for the same race on Saturday, that William's Steal has previously met, is Pinchbeck. Goes back about 12 months but William's Steal beat Pinchbeck easily giving that horse 1kg before an apprentice claim. Williams Steal now handicapped to give that horse 5kg having won 3 country starts since whilst Pinchbeck has won once and placed four times in the city since that meeting ?!?

Ventured West
Bunbury today...
Race 2 Kool Thing, 4YO mare by Jeune so staying may be her caper. Did little in 3 starts in Vic before venturing west. First start in the west (Pinjarra) did reasonably well (beaten 4.75lens) over 1400 after a slow start then put in a shocker over 1400 at Geraldton when fancied – perhaps a victim of the 2nd-Up syndrome? Race 4 Evert perhaps another victim of the 2nd-Up syndrome when well beaten at Ascot last start. Prior to that nice WA debut run C2 at Pinjarra. She’s a winner Newcastle and Kembla Grange over today’s distance so a good performance is on the cards. Ex South Aussie Mr Jazz Man also in same race and will be fancied. Placed only 2 starts in the west both in the city and from a good draw will no doubt be up with the leading bunch throughout. Race 5 sees a big jump in distance and class for former Victorian Freedom Tower. Will be interesting to see how he goes. Former NSW resident and maiden performer Uganda did OK last start midweek class at Ascot over 2200 and will be improved by that run only his 2nd since a spell. Race 7 will see the WA debut of Magnificence a lightly raced 4YO mare formerly from Qld. Won at first start over 1200 then spelled. Returned for a solid effort in a C3 at Eagle Farm then a disappointing effort when hot fav in a C1 at Ipswich. Not raced since but you’d expect a good performance today on form to-date. |
