AFL Tipping Comp

Welcome to the AFL tipping comp. Make sure you read the rules carefully please.

RULES

Everyone to have their tips in for the whole round before the first match.

Pick the team you think will win each game and also pick whether they'll win by 1-24 points or 25+ points. 1 point will be awarded for correctly picking the winning team. 2 points will be awarded if you also get the margin correct. You can pick a draw if you wish. You will receive 12 points for correctly tipping a draw.

Pick the exact winning margin in the selected 'match of the week'
2 bonus points will be awarded to the tipster who gets closest to the actual winning margin in this match. If anyone gets the margin exactly correct, they will get an extra 8 bonus points.

Bit concerned that you miss by 1 and get 2 bonus points and be spot on you get 8.

What about a bit of common sense leniency for this round.
Only coz first game is Thursday.
My main concern is knowing the team squads, particularly for Sunday and Monday games!
Maybe make the Saturday afternoon bounce the closing time for other games!

Don't honestly expect that we'll get that close to the exact margin all that often. I wouldn't be surprised if we go the whole season with no one getting the 8 bonus points. It's just an added incentive to keep everyone interested.

Sportz 20th March 2005 07:41 PM

Okay, yes. I'll be lenient with the first round because of the break on Good Friday. I would still like everyone to put ALL their tips in before Thursday's game, but if you then want to make a couple of changes you can do so providing you do it before Saturday's games start. :)

Chuck 20th March 2005 07:44 PM

i don't really need the teams up, because most of my AFL tips will be guesswork!

I have substituted Geelong for Richmond! Don't know where Richmond came from to begin with.

Hey Kiwi, how much AFL coverage do you get in NZ?

goldmember 24th March 2005 09:46 AM

Round 1, havent got the foggiest, so i tossed a coin and i'll be happy with 4 points :

Brisbane Lions 25 + [26]
Carlton 1-24
Port Adel 1-24
Melbourne 1-24
Swans 25 +
Adel crows 1-24
Geelong 25 +
W/bulldogs 1-24

Carlton 1-24
Melbourne 1-24
Port Adelaide 1-24
Sydney 25+
Geelong 25+
West Coast 1-24
Collingwood 1-24

Not confident. Some real toughies for the opening round. 4 or 5 games that could go either way.

Tenacious Spirit 24th March 2005 10:42 AM

Sportz, you're not wrong re the toughness of the round. The first few are always a bit like that because you don;t really know what potential shown in pre-season was genuine or not, ie: some coaches taking it more seriously than others.

No worries on the layout either

BJ 24th March 2005 03:20 PM

Best of luck to everybody with your tips and especially if you back them up with your wallet....

Kangaroos 1-24
Port Power 1-24
Melbourne 25+
Sydney 25+
Adelaide 1-24
Geelong 25+
Collingwood 1-24

Weekend games to possibly be adjusted depending on the ins and outs tonight.

moeee 24th March 2005 07:42 PM

Timed out on the edit time limit but would have liked to have slapped this addendum.
Please?

(Last minute thoughts.
Make it Brisbane by 5 points.
Because it is Chris Scott and not Brad.

And Sportz!
Normally I would have had the Lions by 23 points.
But by allowing for my new player ratings,it is now 5 points.)

Okay. Let's see how they go.

I went for St Kilda when Lappin was out. Now he's playing which makes a big difference, but I decided to stick to my first thought anyway. All depends on whether St Kilda can overcome their previous terrible record at the Gabba. If they can, they have a good chance. Same goes for West Coast against Adelaide too.

Hmmm, perhaps you should have stuck to the old method.

Sportz 24th March 2005 11:34 PM

Equal closest to the correct margin were Jack Daniels and Kiwi.

Well done fellas! Great start to the long weekend!!

Sportz 24th March 2005 11:41 PM

Well, I suppose I was just plain dumb to go against Brisbane at the Gabba, but if they had taken their chances tonight, St Kilda could certainly have won. I reckon they missed at least 5 or 6 shots they definitely should have got. Losing Reiwoldt didn't help either.

Paddy 24th March 2005 11:45 PM

Got to admit SK's last goal was a gift even though they had just got a poster.

DR RON 24th March 2005 11:45 PM

Sportz, if you check the first page you will see thta chuck nailed the 8 bonus points.
