FVRatings 2012

Hi Shaun,

I was just looking at your FVRatings 2012 Update program you was kindly enough to share.

Just an observation.

Did you now that the ratings take into account any recent barrier trial so if runners last run was a barrier trial or even last 3 runs was a barrier trial, they end being what the program uses to calculate its rating, so for instance in the class rating the runner gets $0 for last start prize money so ends up ranked last also it might have had a bad barrier trial due to bad weather etc and may had finished many lengths behind the winner so gets a bad fitness rating.

Is there any way to eliminate those runs from calculations?

This will be a challenge, i might have to give some type of average for this type of run.

I only use the last 2 runs so i might be able to move it to the 3rd or 4th run if needed, but i do understand this makes sense to make the changes to not include this info.

Well I'm glad your doing it and not me.

I wouldn't know where to start but if I think of anything that might be helpful, I'll let you know.

I can use the fact the prize money is zero as a set start position to get the other references from.

Wow sounds good, hate to think how long it took you to learn all this excel stuff.

I have only been playing around with excel for like last 12mths and not from reading any books :S had some previous experience with Access but not much.

Always learning things the long way, sometimes it works out better though.

I find the easiest way to learn is first to know what you need to get done, there are thousands of things excel will do and there are multiple ways to do the same thing.

That's how i started then i just used a combination of Google, Mr Excel message board and Gruss forum to find the answers i needed.

Once i learned the basics then i moved in to ways of making it faster and simpler.

Just about every sheet i have every posted on here has what i have learned in the codes.

What version of that file did you have because i have rebuilt a new file with new features, this would have to be my worst habit with excel having multiple files using the same ideas, i must have thousands by now.
