Here's a betting system that I successfully used more than 30 years ago on Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane Saturday racing.

I've checked a few random Saturdays from this year and the results were good, so it could still be winning.

Here are the rules.

1. The horse's last start was no more than 14 days before its current race,

2. It finished 2nd to 5th. in its last start.

3. It was beaten by less than 3 lengths.

4. The horse must have a minimum 25% winning strike rate.

5. Eliminate any horse that is more than $10.00 in Saturday's prepost market. Use good prepost markets such as in Melbourne's Herald Sun.

6. If there are 2 qualifiers and odds permit, back them both. If more than 2 qualifiers, give the race a miss.

When I went to the race track and used this betting system I wanted the horse's on track bookmaker betting odds to be shorter than the morning's prepost odds.

Selections for Saturday. I used the Winning Post for pre post markets.
