Trading on leaders

I know i've talked a lot on and off about settling positions and CP demonstrated money could be made from it and SpeedyBen mentioned he made money betting in play on leaders etc.

My query is, is it possible to back something pre race you expect to either lead or be close to the lead and lay it in running with only trying to scoop up a small profit each race and not being overly greedy. Obviously if the horse doesn't jump well, or has different tactics etc etc you could find yourself hedging out at loss or having to let the bet ride etc but ignoring the intricacies of the timing etc for now, does anyone expect you could do this for a regular profit?

I suppose it comes down to are your speed maps good enough and the likelihood that the horse trades lower in running because its perceived to now have a better chance of winning.

Is anyone interested in even testing this kind of approach? I can provide the selections if someone has the bot to be able to automate some kind of test moving forward. Could be an interesting approach the forum can get involved in that isn't easily able to be replicated.

Thoughts/Comments?

Interesting approach Josh, if I am doing any in play betting it is based on my assessments of who I believe will run the fastest final 400m (sometimes I will back 2 or 3 if the prices are ok) providing they are in a favourable position at the 600m. For me this eliminates a pre-race speed map as the speed map is right there and I simply look for fast closing horses in the right positions.
