Interesting stewards report:

"Santos – co-trainer Mr A Bott reported to Stewards that on the afternoon of Friday, 29 September 2017 the colt had overreached and sustained a minor laceration to its near-fore heel.

Santos was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer after arriving on course and passed fit to start.

Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt aggravated a pre-existing injury to its near-fore heel."

Liked the win by 2yo Tony Nicconi at Caulfield Saturday. His debut delayed until now due to shinsoreness. Likely to stay in work & focus on the early spring. Full brother to the handy Booradley.

I think you'll find that Melik is the highest priced nominee for the Golden Slipper

Good stuff Stan, well bred trial winners are ones to watch. Always forgive them their first run though, and look for improvement in their second race.

I simply cannot believe the high prices paid for some well bred horses, that never fire a whelp. It really is a lottery for people with too much money.

kiwiz 8th September 2018 06:52 PM

NZ Horse of the Year Awards,,Fastnet Rock filly Avantage was a resounding top choice as Champion 2YO
6 starts 5-1-0,,800m - 1400m

Just Zerene (2f Zoustar x Farasha) $800,000 failed on her debut in the BJ McLachlan Stakes on Saturday
Started favourite but was slow away & was unplaced
Already heavily backed to win the Magic Millions Classic which she will now almost certainly miss
