POT 16.5%

selections 198
winners 32
POT 16.5%

METRO
LR Metro Track
Distance > 200m
2 runs since spell
SP $4 to $30
less than 20 sts
Last 4 runs 1st to 4th

The comment I'd like to make here is that it's ever so easy to produce a winning system ..... The hard part is making a profit from the "idea". A lot of good posters who previously posted on mechanical systems seem to have gone over to "the other side". The dark side where laying, and numbers and stats and odds rule and where a horses form matters not.

Maybe this part of the racing game is cyclical too.

Hi Barny,

I'm with you on producing systems that produce >50% POT and having fewer best per year rather than looking for a low POT% and lots of bets. I feel more comfortable doing this. By having several systems producing >50% POT there are plenty of bets to have each Saturday - my main day for betting (or should I say investing!)

I do not lay horses - not in my mindset, though I do admire Michaelg for all his efforts in producing lay systems and continuing to list results.

A question about the system you have listed is the distance supposed to be >1200m or going up more than 200m from last start?

What timeframe was it over ?
If more then a year then how many weeks or months were in profit ?
Can you provide the sum of 1/odds for validation?
Also what was the highest priced winner ?

Thanks

Well based on your answers this doesn't seem like a good system at all. Its not really been tested properly. It might have the abiility to be a good system but based on your answers no one can tell.

The entire profit could be provided by 1 winner only. (16% of 198 is approx 30)
You have no idea if it had a good time early on and is dwindling away and making a loss recently.(profit over months/years breakdown)
You don't know if it was due to luck or an edge. (needs 1/odds)

There is so much more to system development then finding systems which show a profit on turnover. You need to

a) make sure its consistent
b) make sure it hasn't lost its edge in recent times
c) make sure it wasn't due to luck
d) make sure the profit wasn't all due to 1 or 2 winners.

These 4 things are key to determining if a system will continue to make a profit.
