"Grand Promenade and Montefilia have both been penalised a kilo by Racing Victoria's chief handicapper Greg Carpenter, lifting their handicaps to 52kg for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups following Group victories last Saturday.

Grand Promenade is exempt from the Melbourne Cup ballot after winning the G3 Bart Cummings (2500m) at Flemington last weekend. He has moved to 39th in the Caulfield Cup order of entry with the weight penalty.

His kilo penalty is the same handed to the previous two winners of the Bart Cummings, Surprise Baby (2020) and Persan (2021), who both went on to finish fifth in the Melbourne Cup after bypassing the Caulfield Cup.

G1 Metropolitan Handicap (2400m) winner Montefilia is guaranteed a start in the Cups, moving to ninth in the Caulfield Cup order of entry and 10th in the Melbourne Cup."
