2.85? You're kidding!
An article on the back cover of The Examiner on 18/3/2005 had an headline of D-Day for Deloraine.
Wade Hadley, chairman of stewards of the Tasmanian Turf Club, was joined in yesterday's track inspection by trainers Terry Roles, Graeme McCulloch and Michael Trinder, along with jockeys Troy Atkins, David Pires, Shannon Brazil and Michael Voss and TTC chief executive Robety Biffin. Wade Hadley reported that the average penetrometer reading for the track (Deloraine) is 2.85, which makes it hard. Recent water restrictions and an inadequate irrigation system kept the reading low. Has anyone heard of a penetrometer reading lower than 2.85? |

UPDATE
The stewards will decide later in the week whether the meeting at Deloraine on Easter Monday will go ahead. The penetrometer reading needs to be around the 3.50 mark (it was 2.85 on Thursday). |

It was reported later in the day that the penetrometer reading was as low as 1.50 at one part at the track. |

Thank goodness you're still around - think I lost Kenchar for good!! Updating us on the state of a Deloraine track five months after the event deserved at least my very polite and humbly put "please explain". But then again, perhaps not. |

Thanks for that comment. I'm happy to say that the staff did water the track a few days before that meeting, allowing the meeting to go ahead. |
