"C" for the last 30 years has meant Distance and course winner to me.

OMG, can you believe this?

Like "D" yes this means a distance winner
"C" means a winner at THIS COURSE (or Track) and DISTANCE
"T" means won at this TRACK (or Course)
"W" means has won a race before (at any distance)

MG, and this is fundamental info to "professionals"?????? huh?

W has always meant won in the Wet.

Here is an example from a web site (although they have lowercase letters but that doesn't matter):

Letters are also used to indicate track and distance performance as outlined below.

b = beaten favourite last start
t = won at track of today's race
d = won at distance of today's race
c = won at both course & distance of today's race
w = won in wet conditions
n = won at a night meeting
h = racing on home track

Yes well, thats what I mean, surely they should syncranise legends, we've already uncovered several conflicts.

eg [W Has won or "been placed" on a rain-affected track]

I'm a bit perplexed now as I always took W to mean Won (at a different track and different distance)

If we added 10% to the prices it takes it to over 30% p.o.t i am sure with BFSP that would be higher, i have to admit that dropping the earlier races has improved this, not sure in all it is an over all winner but still for a few bets a day it is not bad.

Being mainly a long shot system, it has to BF SP, having observed this one for quite a few years I would not be game to lay it.

You could improve that by dropping bets under 15 since it is mostly a long shot system

Shaun, do you think in that case it is better to just ignore the race OR proceed to the next selection that is showing longer odds? (working up from bottomweight)?

I would ignore the race, i like the idea of percentages, so yes you may miss a winner or two but i think you will miss more losers, the thing that makes this selection idea a possible winner is those long shot runners that do seem to get up more frequently than there price suggests they should, in the tests i have posted i only go for those "C" and "D" horses, so like your original system working from the bottom up, the fact you cut out most of the races by targeting the last few races could also help this along as we do often see higher price winners in the last.

We all know you can't win backing in every race with any system so looking at ideas to cut down on losing bets is always a good thing, i need to rewrite a sheet to test the price idea so i can do some back testing on this, when done i can test using Unitab prices, BFSP seems the way to go.
