2014 Commonwealth Games

The 2014 Commonwealth Games, officially the XX Commonwealth Games, will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, over 11 days of competition from 23 July to 3 August 2014.

Sands 14th April 2014 11:25 PM

There will be a total of 17 sports and 261 medal events contested.

kiwiz 16th April 2014 05:17 AM

Barring injury Valerie Adams should have little trouble winning her third consecutive Commonwealth Games shot put gold medal

This time around, no walking events in athletics, synchronised swimming or Greco-Roman wrestling
We normally do okay in the walking but not much success in the other two sports (from memory)

jake 13th May 2014 11:59 AM

..what! no synchronised swimming!

But they have added triathlon mixed relay & women's boxing to the program

grizzle 24th May 2014 08:17 PM

A bit surprised to see women's boxing added

kiwiz 29th May 2014 08:34 PM

Women's Boxing was added to the 2012 Summer Olympics
Was well received
Adding to the Commonwealth Games looks a natural progression

grizzle 8th June 2014 05:39 PM

Na, wasn't aware of that, shows you how observant I am :)

JB1 15th June 2014 09:08 AM

Sally Pearson would have to be a strong Gold hope. Ran 2nd in March this year, World Indoor Championships, 60 metres hurdles, so still has it.

Sally has been appointed athletics team captain
Reported to be champing at the bit & just a little excited

JB1 26th June 2014 04:37 PM

Yeah good news for Sally.
Pre-selected in the 100m hurdles. Also likely to run the 100m flat where she would come up against multiple Olympic and world sprint champion Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce from Jamaica.

kumite 3rd July 2014 10:07 PM

we should pick up medals in the field hockey
our men currently rated no. 1 in the world
our women currently rated no. 2 in the world

JB1 9th July 2014 09:00 PM

Looking forward to the Triathlon. Alistair & Jonny Brownlee (ENG), Richard Murray (RSA) will make hard for our guys, Ryan Bailie & Aaron Royal.
Whilst our ladies, Emma Moffatt & Emma Jackson will have to contend with Helen Jenkins (Wales) & Jodie Stimpson (ENG). Should be very competitive.

Reported that Sally is a possible starter in the 4x100m as well
Won't decide until just before the events
100m hurdles her main aim
No surprise there

Sands 15th July 2014 10:08 PM

Sally has been struggling with a hamstring injury in recent weeks, so I would imagine she will be happy just getting through the hurdles

Hard to go past England in the Mixed Relay Triathlon. Unfortunately long odds-on for the event.
