Default Goofy's guide to winning at the dogs

Watching replays is the best go ..... But if you cannot do that try this !!

1) Stick to Metro races, at least you'll be able to get a bet on.
2) Stick to the better grade races at the meetings ..... this should give you an opportunity to accurately develop your own speed maps, and also find out which dogs run wide, which rail etc so that you can work out where the clear run to the first turn is.
3) Stick to the better trainers ..... they're unlikely to run an injured dog.
4) Don't worry too much about best times at the track, there's many a reason for a variance of even .30 such as; might have won early in the night on a fast track compared to another dog who might have won a later event on a slower track. You'll notice that times do get fractionally worse as the evening wears on ..... Also the class of race where the dog recorded it's best time is important to take note of. A lower grade best time is not worth as much as a better grade best time ..... if that makes sense.
5) Pay close attention to which dog should get the clear run ..... this is crucial. So long as the dog is in it's right class, if it gets a clear run early then it's a good chance. An often overlooked piece of info because my experience tells me that most punters luv the dog charging home. They're just too scared to put their hard earned on the first 40 metres !!! I recall a match race (just two of them) between, from memory Half Your Luck (a known good beginner) and New Mariner (a brilliant dog who was slow early but always powered home). New Mariner was 1 / 2 in the ring and Half Your Luck jumped out and was never headed. All the wally's backed New Mariner as it was "not going to cop it's usual interference" and would obviously win. Very few give any credence to the dog seeing the bunny and chasing it hard !!
6) Pay attention to what track the dog fires at. There's definitely tracks that suit some dogs and not others, so do your homewrk here. It's all in the formguide.
