Default laying

i have 2 admitt the only laying i ever did in my life was my ex...ok joking aside now does laying mean the horse must not run a place??ty. excuse my ignorance

To lay a horse means you are taking the bookies role....
To lay it for a win means you offer odds that it will not win...
To lay it for a place means you offer odds that it will not place....
