I am attempting to rate a greyhounds effort after every race.
So when I study the fields in future races,I use these ratings to come up with a market.
Maybe you have heard of the OPTIMIST from a racing magazine and possibly PPM magazine.
What I am trying is to use the greyhounds last 4 ratings.Problem appears that all 4 ratings will be different. So which one do I use?.
I have decided to average these ratings, but weighted towards the most recent run.
The most recent run rating is multiplied by a factor of 4,next run multiplied by 3,then 2,and then 1.
Add the whole lot, then divide by 10.TARA - Final Rating.
One other thing I do is give each dog a box penalty.
Do this for each dog in a race, then perform the Don Scott method of framing a market and jobs done.
It has been suggested that Box 1 can in fact be a hindrance to some dogs. And this is true but I really want to avoid coming up with factors that I can't quantify and put into my computerised program.
The purpose of the exercise is to be right more times than being wrong.
