Good Morning Everyone I am looking for help!! I have recently updated from Windows 2000 to XP and I am now having problems with my emails. Up until now I have used Outlook for my email and had no problems, but when I download Zip files from cyberhorse (past data which they email to me) I receive the files and I can see theattachments but Outlook won't allow me access telling me that they are unsafe files. All other attachments I receive no problems.

A friend of mine suggested incredimail so I downloaded it but more problems. When I receive the email from cyberhorse which should have zip files attached it would appear to have removed the the attachments all together. Also larger files with for example Excel files attached don't make it to their destination when sent by me and when I receive larger files it would appear to be receiving the email but nothing appears in my inbox.

Anyone got any ideas?

Hi,
It's possible your e mail settings are preventing access. Eg on Outlook if you go to Tools/Options/Security there is a box which is for "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus".
If it is ticked the only attachments allowed through that you can access are Microsoft attachments.

Two Dogs,

Neil is right, I also have XP and experienced similar problems.

Also make sure that your Winzip utility is set right and associated with all zip files, this can change if you installed XP over Win98.

To do this just try and open an old zip file on your computer and it will tell you if it's not associated.

If Neil's or my advice still does not work, please post which anti-virus software you have, as some are not very compatible with XP.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your advice much appreciated. I will give it a shot tonight.

My computer was formatted before XP was loaded on and I am using Norton's System Works 2003. Chrome Prince if I don't have any old Zip files what is the best approach?

Thanks

If your computer was formatted first and a default installation of XP used there will probably be a couple of hiccups and you'll need to change settings.
Norton Antivirus is fine with XP, just make sure you have downloaded the latest antivirus database so any conflicts do not occur with XP.

Just directly download any small zip file from any website to check it.

Example:
http://www.saddlerat.com/puntmaster...us%20Tracks.zip

Just try and open it with winzip and if it opens o.k. you know winzip is associated with this type of file. If not it will just ask you to click o.k. to associate all zip files with winzip.

If you need further help, just repost and I'll do my best.

If your computer was reformatted you may not even have Winzip on your PC anymore. If not you can download it from http://www.winzip.com

Yeah, didn't think of that one!

The obvious often gets missed by me.

If you have XP no need for winzip as XP comes with an unzipping feature....i think it may be your security settings....are you setup as administrator check under start/settings/control panel/user accounts

Thanks for all your help guys much appreciated!! This forum is great the way everyone is willing to have a shot at a problem. Neil hit the nail on the head for the outlook side of things.

Incredimail is an interesting one thou. I forwarded one of the emails I received from cyberhorse and hey presto the attachment could be seen but not before I forwarded it. MMMM maybe that is why the program was free. Still be interested to see if there is an answer.

Thanks
