Default NSW licence for Betfair?

Very scant details so far about this intriguing headline.

Presumably Betfair wants to be allowed to advertise, sponsor and have an on-course and clubs presence?

The more market liquidity, the better.

One big problem with Betfair is that Australian pools typically only build up a few minutes before AST. If this initiative helps pools to build earlier then the whole market should in turn be stimulated,

I hear that the NSW Govt. is negotiating with Betfair to reach an agreeable % take of the action in exchange for licensing.

I hear Betfair are taking the WA Govt to the Supreem court at an estimated legal cost of approx $20Mill.

I also hear that SA is also wanting to join WA in shutting Betfair out.

They are still spruking the nonscence about lay betting could be manipulated for horses to be pulled up.

One could do that now by backing the whole field to win minus the horses that wont win using proportinal Dutch betting.

These guys dont seem to even know the basics of lay betting.

It makes Democracy look like a mockery.
Just like some of the puritanic states of America, the greatest Democracy in the world, what a joke.

One can buy unlimited handguns, semi-automatics & amunition over the net , but one cant place a bet over the net.

Is this the Democracy that America wants Irak to have?
I bet it is'nt.

Cheers.

No shortage of articles about this, and nearly 100% rubbish.

But masses of priceless free publicity for Betfair.

But while wading through the latest I stumbled on this Betfair bombshell.

http://sport.guardian.co.uk/horsera...2203807,00.html

Unfortunately it is scant on detail.

The article calls Betfair SP the last price matched, which is obviously rife for manipulation.

Who will be the counterparty to Betfair SP? Customers as SP layers, or Betfair?

Maybe I've got a devious mind, but the first thing I thought of was money laundering.
No need to hang around TAB's to purchase winning trifecta tickets. Simple have two accounts and all you lose is the 5% vig.

You can already do this using software, I don't see the difference other than higher liquidity at the final price.
It might bring more hesitant people to Betfair who suddenly realize they can get better than the last traded price.

Finally information, of sorts, about Betfair's SP revolution.

At first glance this should be an interesting predictor of how a runner's chance may fluctuate.

Just play off their guide SP price against the current prices. How can you go wrong!

Meanwhile articles are appearing that Betfair is close to signing an agreement with NZ for coverage of some their racing.

It's nice of NZ to surrender its tote-only monopoly.

I presume overall it will make NZ tote prices more accurate.
