Thumbs up In Your Opinion

What is the best source of free ratings? or most accurate in your opinion.

Don Scott? Do these really work anymore?
Unitab?
NSW TAB?

I'd be interested in getting your views on this.

I bought Make Racing Pay and it mentions about using ratings to bet the $100 per day plan. The issue is I don't want to subscribe to ************** ratings!

Any feedback or thoughts on what you use?

Not sure myself but I did see in a recent thread someone mentioning good use of the Sportmans Zipform Ratings. Try those.

Mind you, they are not free but cost around $5 for the paper each week.

If you're handy with Excel... a one off payment of $125 will get you Roger Biggs book Handicapping My Way. I've created these ratings myself from the tables in the book and can vouch for their quality.

I feel you will find that the pre-post markets top 5 will have a higher SR than any ratings service.

Its Top 5 SR was approx 80%

Maiden races had appox the same percentage SR strangely enough.

Backing these top 5 produces a -5.5% LOT
Not bad for taking 5 runners at same amount on each.

Delete the correct horse & your now in profit.

I discovered this when I ran the GTX program which had 9 different ratings methods.

Then it comes down to what one does with these ratings.

Hi there LetsBet, I think I bought a Roger Biggs book some years ago but cant remember the name of it. I ended up selling it on ebay. So these ratings you have created, how many races do you use them for and on which days. And how long do they take. I've spent countless hours setting up a spreadsheet of my own, based on best times where I rate every horses last start, but recently the heavy tracks are playing havoc a bit, as I only concentrate on sydney on saturdays. A few weeks ago before the rains I had some excellent results.

If I mentioned this here before I apologise.
Looking at the DonSct base-rating on the Neurals second selections, there is hardly a day it is not in profit at some stage.
Question is? What sort of punter are you?
Love to bet, plenty of action, profit is a bonus?
Can't stop when ahead?
The forget it.

I mainly bet on Supertab for very good reasons (not because they pay best odds I hasten to add!)
I'm trialling some place betting on Betfair and the odds are better if you can get on, I'm surprised that some times you can't get matched for the back price even for the minimum, I think I'm up against bots, I put in the bet only to be rejected over and over. By the time I make a decision to continue with it or go to the TAB it's usually too late.

I found that early on, they layers are more adventurous.

Good luck

Do your own ratings. For example the following will give you a good run for your money and may get a good pot if you can work out the right filters.

Consider win% multiplied by 2 and the place% for each horse. The basic rating for each horse is the highest of the two. e.g.

Horse 1 win%=22.5 place%=50, thus rating is 50 (45 compared with 50)
Horse 2 win %=33 place%=44, thus rating is 66
Horse 3 win%=19.6 place%=54, thus rating is 54

The top three of theses horses consistently win just under 50% of races so assuming the above examples represent the top three ratings come up with a price for each as follows:

Add ratings: 50+66+54=170 and find express each rating as a % of 170.
i.e. 29.4%, 38.8% and 31.8% respectively.

Now choose an overlay factor which is less than 50, say 40 and find 40% of each.

Your final percents would be 11.8%, 15.5% and 12.7%.

Divide each into 100 to get your final ratings as overlay prices, viz $8.47, $6.45 and $7.87 which should be rounded up to $8.50, $6.50 and $7.90

(Don't waste time trying to combine win% and place% as there is zero correlation between the two.)

Update

I missed out on a potential profit of about $60 by placing two bets of $10 and leaving the screen not realising that the bets were not matched.

Now, there were $3.15 and $3.85 offered and I put $10 against each.
What sort of an exchange is it that can't handle a $10 bet?

Why offer a price if you don't match it once excepted?

I'm sorry but this is not an exchange, it's parody of one, may work well enough if you dabble in the silly end of the market, but for God's sake what's the difference of excepting a bet at $3.85 or $3.8?
If that is all there is to make profit or not then that punter better give the game away.

Enough of my rant, if it works for you good and good luck with it.

The place betting system I was testing would be profitable, I made about $245.0 in two days on betfair the average bet would be $10 because I never gone above $20 and can't go below $5 but sitting in front of the computer for hours is not my cup of tea.

Cheers

Hi Ocho,
I have found that they all have the same percentage SR for their top 5.

Racingandsport
**************
WA online newspaper prices.
Any newspaper pre-post.

Hi Gunny,
That's an interesting ratings angle.
Thanks for for sharing that
