Kame’s Hope went down narrowly (first-up) behind Joachimstaler at Bunbury (1100) lumping 61.5kg but must admit was very disappointing on paper when running last (2nd up) Australia Day over 1200. Has performed poorly 2nd up previously so I’m forgiving him that run and will be including him in my race investments.

Early Express is to fly out of Perth February 7 to commence his eastern states campaign which will include the Group 1 Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley over 1200M, then a fortnight later the Futurity and then concluding with the Australian Cup. He will be stabled at Caulfield and Darren Gauci will be doing the riding honours.
Before he leaves for the east Early Express may run in The Year Of The Rooster welter (1400M) at Ascot this Saturday. |

The Peter Giadresco trained Spirited Gem is my on top selection. The stable has been really firing in recent months (eg. Early Express, Scopaciri, Shake Your Bon Bon and Magic Haul) and the in-form Spirited Gem is going really well, probably in career best form. He races on pace and stays out of trouble. Well drawn and well weighted, has to be the one to beat!! |

If Early Express runs on Saturday (decision still pending) I wouldn't be expecting too much from him given the challenge awaiting and the 63.5kgs allotment!! |

Another good trial winner yesterday was the unraced 2yo gelding Master Jack. Master Jack was settled in last position by The Fish before storming home to win by 1˝ lengths unextended. However watch for a name change before the geldings first official race start. Racing and Wagering WA officials have advised trainer George Daly that the gelding would not be allowed to race under the name Master Jack as he could be confused with another WA galloper Marsta Jac who has started in the city and at provincial tracks this season. |
