Default In Run Positions

With the recent discussions around leaders and in running positions I started to wonder what the "official" running positions are or what people consider the terms for in running positions are. For example, horses settling 1-2 are leaders, 3-4 are sitting handy, etc.

I would be interested to get people's opinions on this.

midfield =middle of the field
midfield/back// towards the back

Thanks for your input Rick, I am trying to see if I can set up a speed map template in Excel using default positions for each horse based on where they have settled the majority of starts during the past 3 years. Once the defaults are in I can then make any manual adjustments needed.

Hey Mattio,

I've created a spreadsheet in excel using pivot tables and pivot charts for a speed map. I extract the information from **** but I can only use whatever starts are in ****, up to about the last ten starts I think.

The end result is quite good. 4 nice pretty different colored bar graphs showing the horses average position over those last starts at "settle, 1200m, 800m and 400m".

All from barrier 1 outwards.

I only use 3 columns from the "Price" folder and extract the horses name, barrier position and race number. Takes a few minutes to say do one meeting, I really only look at Sydney on Saturdays.

Then I can just click on the next race, take out the scratchings and up it comes.

Paul
