A good free option which covers every TAB race in Australia is winnerinsix ratings. They get emailed out generally a few days before, so need to do own scratchings, but from what I have found, they are as good as any commercial ratings it seems.

The first 5 lines in the pre-post market is as good, if not better, than any.
Having said thati have been round and round it but can't seem to get it into significant profit territory.
So any ideas more than welcome.

The bookies opening prices are probably the best tho.

The top 5 of most ratings/bookies opening quotes are going to provide you with probably around 80% of winners. Great place to start if you like doing the form. Another option which I have been trialling with success is take the top4-5 and run lay systems over them to try eliminate as many as you can. By removing the poor value horses, you can start swinging the book into your favour, if you can eliminate 1-2 horses, depending on what they are paying, you are in a way reducing the market to under 100% which is a great thing!

I honestly reccomend to everyone who prefers to back horses to spend a few months laying them, you quickly start to realise what type horses are overbet and represent poor value. I was amazed at what I quickly discovered thats for sure.

Been playing around with the Whiteway ratings from the Winning Post site, they seem ok for a free product.

Has anyone bothered to keep a record of them or know how they are devised and perform?
