Heres a question for anyone out there. The pub i was at last night said that pokies return more than ANY OTHER FORM OF GAMBLING. This sounds like nonsense to me. It said (from memory)

POkies 87%
Gaming 80% (Tab?)
Lotteries 60%

But what about roulette and all the casino games? Dont they return 95% or thereabouts?

It's a pretty sleazy claim to make.
The real point is that you turn over HEAPS more playing pokies than other forms of gambling. Therefor you lose heaps more.

Pokies are a rip off.
They are also addictive for some players.
it is about time legislation was put in place to:
1.When a player loses the machine instead of saying win 0 should say lose 9 or whatever is lost.
2.The music stops playing - it can be addictive and creates an atmosphere of winning when in fact just about everyone is being taken to the cleaners.
3.True odds for the various winning combinations were put on the machines. That way everyone will see them for the rip offs they are.

Juju, you are right to challenge that statement. It is absolute unmitigated nonsense. If you go to the menu on the front page of Smartgambler (click on the log above) their is a link to a table of comparative returns. It's called "best games" from memory. That table puts the lie to what your friendly pub is claiming.

Best bet in the house is BJ using basic strategy (counting/shuffle tracking etc can give you the advantage under decent conditions).

Second best bet is Banker in Baccarat.

Single zero roulette is about 2.5
double zero is a bit over 5%

Can't remember craps.

I don't bother playing any casino game apart from BJ, but then again, I'm after money, not entertainment.
