Default Total Prize money raced for

I have been reading about using the "prize money raced for" as a filter. This is not the prize money won but just the prize money offered for the race.

Has anyone done anything using this filter ?

Obviously horses that run in races that offer ore prize money "should be" better quality horses.

Just looking at todays races (Excluding maidens)
There were 12 Races yeilding 3 winners, 2 seconds and 2 thirds. I am not going to bother posting the POT as 12 races is nothing to base anything on.

The filter I applied for the above was highest Total prize money raced for in the last 5 races.

Has anyone used this as a filter/system before ? If so have you got any results you can share ? or can someone test it ?

Thanks

Nice idea Wesmip1.

I imagine it would be time consuming and i doubt anyone else would have any results to share but i hope you keep at it.

If it was me i would only check on the horses $15 or less pre post to save time,i doubt you would miss any winners over $15 pre post that would have finished on top anyhows.

Would your results have been any different if you just used the last 3 starts?

Dale,

There wouldn't be much difference with the last 3 or the last 5 races.
I only started keeping stats on it yesterday so I can't say whether or not it would have any impact. I used 5 starts as that was what was available on the expert form site.

I'll post todays selections if I get a chance. I left them at home.
I am just looking for filters that the average person doesn't use.

At the moment I can't find those details on the tab online site anywhere ? If anyone knows where it is then I could add it to my program and I could run a historic test.

Thanks

About 12 months ago I tried to add the prize money of a race as part of a ratings system for West Aus races. I would give the horse xKg performance bonus in each race depending on the prize money of each previous race it had had. It was only part of a larger rating system so it didn't have a huge effect on the final rating of the horse.
I was dismayed to find that it actually reduced my POT by a small amount.
So I did the opposite. Reduced the horse's rating based on the prize money of the previous races, and lo and behold the POT improved marginally.
What a load of crap I hear you say, how can that be. Well, if I am on foriegn soil (like when holidaying in NZ for eg) and I feel like a few $1 bets to make life interesting I might have a formguide in front of me. I don't know any of the races or the horses and one of the things I base my selections on is the prize money of the previous races, thinking they will be a guide to the strength of the horses. If I do this as one of my first options (in the blackness of ignorance) I guess perhaps others do the same and so maybe prizemoney of previous races is overused by the mug punter. Since that experiment I have put prizemoney of previous races in the same category as barriers, overused by punters and thus a negative influence on POT.

Having said all this, I relate this more for interests sake than anything else, you are using it in a totally different way so maybe it will pull its share of winners.

Kenny,

Were you using prize money won ? or prize money raced for ?

I knopw alot of system use average prize money won per race and/or total prize money won, but this is slightly different using the prize money for which was raced (not won).

The only online formguide IO could find that had the information was expert form. all other form guides seem to disregard it and only show prize money won.

I don't know of many systems that use this filter, and I haven't seen any systems on here that use that as a filter.

It is throwing a lot of longer priced horse which was suprising. I guess this is because the horses racing at a higher prize money range usually are running 6 placed or higher and their form doesn't look good.

Anyway I will post anything I find.

Hi Wesmip,
Prize money raced for. I was effectively adjusting the rating of the race (class if you like) of the race by the prizemoney on offer.

Yes surely there is a direct correlation between class of race and prize money, at least generally anyway.
