Default Filtering by Race Type

I've read many times on here that one of the most valuable filters is the type of race.

Early days, but my Win% system is getting rid of losers when I eliminate horses that haven't run in anything equal to or better than a Handicap race. I include the Group races, Stakes, Open and Handicap. I've never used this filter before but it seems logical with a "stable" type selection method as you're going to get a better class horse (confidence of it's potential by the trainer's placing of it), with a decent strike rate.

Not sure what other systems could benefit from this filter, not too many spring to mind actually.

Just thought I'd share this for the unwashed amongst us .....

I think at the very least a race filter will cut down on the number of races you bet on.

Interestingly I,ve found that the rougher the race the higher liklihood of getting a good priced winner.
i.e Look at the rubbish going around in Race 6 @ Queanbeyan.

Shaun, I've read many times about filtering by the type of race, but I cannot recall an example of a system that would allow race filtering to enhance it.

It seems like it's one of those filters that may be very powerful, but is limited to a certain type of method. It may be one filter that could replace several trivial filters ........ ?

Perhaps if you washed your filter it would work better?
And don't forget what the bookies say "The More You Bet - The More You Win"

If it is coming from a bookie they would be referring to what they win, this might answer the question.

I don't think race filter works as a general criteria but more in the type of selections you have.

If you were going after favs you might consider earlier races on the program but if you are after better prices later races might be better.

When i was more in to ratings Open races and above were always better for me, maybe it was the exposed form or more prize money that ment horse were more inclined to race on merit.

Spot on Shaun for mine, I dont use ratings but high Win% as a base. Also the higher race grade is an indication of how the trainer rates the horse too, especially one who might be unproven in that grade.
