Hi,

Just wondering..."does anyone posses or know where I can ovtain a class scale"? Basicly I'm looking for something (like a chart of different class of races)that can indicate a race class from hardest class to easiest class. Eg: C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6, Rst1mw etc. What I want to do is to determine which class is easier or harder. There is just so many classes of races out there, I just cant tell which are harder or easier then last race...for example a race with the wording C & G Sc1ly, HCP open or Rst1MW...which one would be the easiest and which one is harder. If someone could help me with this I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Because there is no set class scale that applies Aust. wide, the easiest method to distinguish easiest to hardest class is by prize money. The more there is the harder the race and vis-a-vis.

Cheers.

Crash,

I agree, I use Prizemoney as the benchmark to Class as well, but it's only a starting point. You have to be aware that there are higher class races which have LESS prizemoney.

A ridiculous and confusing situation, but prizemoney is the best option because the races classes vary so much from State to State.

Thanks guy's. I to have used prize money in the past and it is effective, but sometimes it's so hard if the race is not a Listed or group race...all the other low class races ($20,000 to $30,000)are much harder to judge, thats why I hoped there was some kind of "class scale".

The following sites may help -

for victoria -
http://www.ozracing.net.au/vro/handicap/policy.htm

& nsw -
http://www.racingnsw.com.au/page.asp?parm=han.main

I found the following nsw scales some time ago & have found them useful.

HANDICAPPING

Scales
Relative difference between classes

Group 1 handicap 100
GROUP 2 HANDICAP 98
GROUP 3 HANDICAP 96
LISTED HANDICAP 95
OPEN HANDICAP (METRO) 91
TRANSITIONAL HANDICAP
(SATURDAY METRO)
PROVINCIAL OPEN HANDICAP (MIDWEEK) 87
MARES OPEN HANDICAP (METRO) 86
1SC 1YR (SATURDAY)
PROVINCIAL OPEN HANDICAP (SATURDAY) 85
PROVINCIAL TRANSITIONAL (MIDWEEK)
ACT OPEN HANDICAP 83
GOULBURN, M'BROOK, SCONE OPEN HANDICAP 81.5
3YO OPEN HANDICAP (METRO)
PROVINCIAL TRANSITIONAL HANDICAP (SATURDAY)
1SC 1YR (MIDWEEK) 81
0SC 1YR (MIDWEEK)
0SC (MIDWEEK)
COUNTRY OPEN HANDICAP 80
PROVINCIAL CLASS 4 (MIDWEEK) 79
3YO 0SC 78
PROVINCIAL CLASS 4 (SATURDAY) 77
PROVINCIAL CLASS 1-2 (MIDWEEK)
COUNTRY CLASS 4 76
PROVINCIAL CLASS 1-2 (SATURDAY) 75

2yo races handicapped above and below unraced.

Races of 1800m and further in all classes do not contain the overall strength of races run at shorter distances. As such, they are normally scaled approximately 2kg inferior.

These scales are estimated on all races at their strongest level. At various times of the year any or all of these races may be scaled at an inferior level but the relative differences should remain the same.
