Does anyone know a free program that I can open the betfair data with as excel only loads a bit of the file I tried the database program from the open office dot org free software but that didn't work.

As far as making $1 a day, I think all you need is unlimited funds and somewhere to get on and you could just use recovery to get your $1 a day.

Get something like Large Text FIle Editor or UltraEdit which only loads the first part of the file into memory. YOu could then extract bit by bit into separate CSV's which do open.

Also do a search for "split large csv" and there are many programs which will split it into useable chunks.

It was meant to be $1 per horse TO. 7 horse race, $7 return. CP's right, you have to be getting overlays per horse, not necessarily beating Betfair SP, IMO.

As for data download, I downloaded each file to excel 2010. Then filtered out Place bets, missing data etc. then did a multiple copy (52 workbooks) to a single excel workbook. I think excel 2010 is good for 1 mill rows. I was surprised how well it went. I used excel forums to solve all my filtering questions and never had to resort to VBA, phew! I use the files from Betfair.com.au, as the UK files are huge. Still lots of missing info though, but only usually remote trotting tracks in NZ.

I don't agree with unlimited funds though. Just a conservative 1% of Bank, whatever size, and NO Martingale! Just bet multiple overlays in every race if found, to get that turnover happening. The overlay % will pull you through. Run of Outs is your next mental hurdle to overcome.

"there's a reason they don't want punters to see past fluctuations "

In the 80's in a regional Qld town one of the 2 newsagancies was owned by one of the local bookmakers. He wouldn't get the Best Bets in on a Friday because he reckoned the punters were getting too well informed!

Maybe the bookies are just lazy. Perhaps their database got too full and they just turned off the historical part of it.

Unhappy

I think they might be not keeping them anymore as their relevance compared to online bookie, exchange and tote prices is becoming more and more out of whack and a total embarrassment. Particularly the weekday country tracks.

Look at Casino yesterday. They had single open/close prices about longshots of $21 or $31, for horses priced at $61 or $81 everywhere else! In fact at Casino, rough rule of thumb, was final flucs were about 60% of Fixed price bookies or totes. The only horse where they (how many bookies were there?) winged it was Pocket Princess that won the last race. $21 open/final fluc, $73 best tote.

Analysis of Flucs is fast losing it's viability IMO, weekdays.
