I'm testing a Place method where generally more than half of the field is bet to Place. I tried it yesterday with the late races at Belmont and Toowoomba. There were 8 races and a profit was made on 5 of them. Surprisingly there were 5 races that had 8 or more selections and an overall profit of $25.80 was made on 4 of them.
I bet $5 on Betfair S.P. to Place. Some of the "dividends" were much higher than the TAB so I'll give it a go today and list the selections from one of today's meetings. Murwillumbah 1/1,2,3,4,5,7,8,9 2/2,4,6,7,8,10,12 3/1,2,4,5,8,10,11,12 4/4,5,6,8,10,11,12 5/2,3,4,5,6,7,9,10,11,12 6/1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9 7/1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10,11,12 8/1,2,4,5,7,9 |

The method for Murwillumbah lost $6 because I made an error by not listing a qualifying number which placed otherwise Murwillumbah would have broken about even.
Because of yesterday's impressive results for Toowomba and Belmont I decided to bet for a Place on every qualifier from all of the 7 venues. The outlay was $1,022 but it proved worthwhile because it won about $130 (about 10% profit). 6 of the 7 venues gave a profit. However, the results are somewhat distorted because Hamilton 4/10 paid $8 on the TAB but a little over $20 on Betfair S.P. |

Because there's only three meetings today I will list the selections for the meetings.
Goulburn 2/1,3,7,8,10 3/1,2,3,5,6,7,8 4/1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10,11 5/1,2,3,4,5,6,7 6/1,3,4,10 7/1,2,5,7,8,10,11,12,15,17 Gunnedah 1/1,3,4,7,10 2/1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10,11,12 3/1,2,3,4,5,7,8,9,10,13,14 5/2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 6/1,2,3,5,10 7/1,2,6,11,12,13 Echuca 2/1,3,5,9,13 3/2,6,7,13 5/1,4,5,8,10,11 7/1,2,3,5,8,9,10,11,12 9/1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9,11,12,,14 10/5,6,7,9,10,11,12 Outlay of $665. Because of the huge outlay I am considering doing the opposite - that is backing only the non-qualifiers. Although there is an average of four per race some of the dividends have been enormous...food for thought. |

There were 8 profitable races from the 18 for an overall profit of $28.13.

Yesterday because of a few scratchings the results were an overall profit of about 5% which is acceptable. I left out a few races because I suspected there were too many selections but I think they would have shown a profit judging by the TAB results. I'll give it another go today but won't eliminate those races. The only filter is that the race must not have less than 9 runners.
Newcastle 5/1,2,3,6,7,8,9 6/1,3,4,5,8,10,11 7/1,2,3,5,7,10,12 Traralgon 2/1,2,4,5,6,8,9,10,11,16 3/4,5,8,9 4/3,6,8,9,10,11,12,13 5/2,8,9,10 7/1,4,6,8,9,11 Mackay 2/1,2,4,5,7,9,11,12 4/1,2,3,4,5,6,9 5/1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 6/1,2,3,4,8,9,10,11 7/1,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 Casino 1/1,3,4,5,8,9,11,12,14 2/1,2,5,6,11,13,14,16 3/2,3,4,5,6,7,9,10,11,12 4/1,2,3,5,6,7,9,10,11,15 5/1,3,4,5,6,7,8,10,11,12 6/1,2,3,4,5,8,9,10,11,12,14 7/1,4,5,6,7,8,9 If there are no scratchings there will be 168 selections from the 21 races. That is 8 selections each race and it would be difficult to accept that under such circumstances a profit could be made. Last edited by michaelg : 24th June 2014 at 08:01 AM. |

A losing day but the method is still in profit after two days. However, tomorrow I'll be backing the outsiders as they have snared some outstanding payments.
I don't have the results for the last few days for this but as previously mentioned I had a selection which paid $8 on Unitab but an amazing $20 on Betfair S.P. So I would not be surprised if some of the payments have been vastly superior to the TAB. Today there would have been an outlay of $130 on the outsiders resulting in a TAB return of $130.50. As a matter of interest, some of today's selections in the usual method included "not strong" outsiders, and looking only at Mackay the TAB return was $35 but their return on Betfair S.P was $43.60. which is a huge percentage increase. Probably on the right track Michael, there's some great divys to be had in the place markets.

You're right, Stugots.
However, if this fails I've got something else in mind for backing for a Place but at the favourite end of the market which still generally is superior to the TAB divvies. |

Yesterday was a big loser. There were some good payments but they few and far between. So today I'll do the opposite - back the well-fancied.
The selections are: Wyong 4/1,2,4,7,11,13 6/1,3,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,13 7/3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 8/3,6,8,10,11,13 Bendigo 1/15 2/1,5,11,12 3/1,7,9,10 4/6,8,13,15 6/1,4,6,8,9 7/2,4,7,12,17 8/6,8,9,15,16 Port Augusta 1/1 2/1 3/4 4/1,2,3,5,7 6/4,9,10,11 7/1 8/4 Kilcoy 3/1,2,3,4,5,6,7 4/4 5/3,6 6/1,2,5,10 Mortham 1/5,7,9 2/1,4 3/9,12 4/4,5 5/1,5,7,11,12 6/6,7,10 7/2,4,5,8 8/1,3,4,5,6,7,9 9/2,3 |
